Five-axis CNC machining for multi-face parts

Rotary workholding gives access to holes, side openings and contours on several faces. For a similar part, we review the common datums, cutter clearance and measurement access together.

multi-face component forms

Features on different faces

Front-face holes and the curved side opening require access from different directions. Their common datums must remain usable around the rotary fixture.

  1. Review the model and orientations

We identify the faces and openings to reach, then check blank size, tool reach and fixture clearance. Protected surfaces and common datums determine how to hold the part while preserving its assembly relationships.

  2. Plan access around the fixture

Your complete model and mating envelope let us check locating methods and tool directions around the rotary assembly. Side openings and contours must remain accessible in every planned orientation.

  3. Check relationships across faces

Positions and profiles are measured from shared datums using the agreed methods and reports. Indexed positioning reaches angled faces at fixed orientations. Continuous contours need a separate review of simultaneous motion and tool paths.

Position, profile and inspection records

We review common datums, mating features, positional tolerances and surface requirements together. The drawing and required dimensional records let us assess achievable limits and the inspection method.

Angled holes & side openings

Define common datums and positional relationships for angled holes and side openings. Agree position checks against that datum system.

Contours & restricted access

Supply the model revision, tool-clearance and protected-surface requirements. Agree profile comparison and permitted tool marks.

Material & order-specific records

Specify exact material and requirements for your own part, with order-specific records.

For your part, we agree the measurement method, condition after finishing, support, sampling and report format before production.
