CNC Prototype Machining
We machine prototype covers, housings and custom parts for fit, assembly and design evaluation. Each follows an agreed revision and the checks needed to decide what comes next.

What does the prototype need to prove?
We plan the prototype around the question it needs to answer: fit, assembly, appearance or a defined functional check. Mark fixed interfaces, mounting datums, clearances and cover fits on the drawing.
Automotive & motorcycle prototypes
Specify pressure, functional or vehicle tests separately from machining. Include the procedures, fixtures, acceptance limits and responsibility for validation.
Keep the revision, checks and approval together
| Stage | Input | Method & responsibility | Reviewable result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Set the evaluation purpose | Current STEP or IGES model and controlled drawing revision; fit, assembly, appearance or defined functional objective. | Mark fixed mating interfaces, mounting datums and clearances. Record open design decisions and approved material or finish alternatives. | An agreed revision and evaluation scope, with the decisions the prototype can support. |
| Make the agreed version | Material, condition, finish, prototype quantity and critical interfaces. | Before machining, settle the measurements, locating fixtures, test procedures and acceptance limits. Pressure or vehicle tests need their own procedures and a named responsible party. | The prototype and the dimensional or functional records agreed for the evaluation. |
| Review and approve | Measured interfaces, fit or test results and any remaining issues. | Name the approver. Record acceptance, deviations and changes needed for the next revision. | A reviewable approval or change record. A later prototype or batch requires its own released revision. |

Checks for the prototype
Before machining, we agree which prototype features to measure, how to measure them and what to report. The equipment review includes current calibration evidence.
Prototype approval checklistRecord what differs from production
A prototype may use the intended production material, condition and finish, or an approved alternative for the evaluation. Record where the alternative limits conclusions about the production part.
- Material and condition
- The approval record identifies changes in alloy, temper, polymer grade, fillers or stock condition. Aluminum options include 6061 and 7075; temper and heat treatment must suit the evaluation and intended production specification, with the required material records.
- Finish and working surfaces
- Define the prototype finish and intended production treatment. Protect working fits, contact areas, threads and dimensions after treatment.
- Edges and measurement state
- Agree burr limits, edge quality, cleaning and measurement conditions. Where the prototype uses a substitute material or finish, identify the application checks that require the production specification.
The next revision or batch
Record feedback, open issues and permitted changes. Identify and approve the next model / drawing revision before another prototype is machined. Acceptance stays tied to the tested revision and evaluation scope. A repeat batch needs its own baseline, quantity, sampling plan and commercial order.
