Casting Machining Services
We finish-machine bores, seal lands and mounting faces on cast housings and pump bodies. The casting provides the overall shape; its condition and machining allowance determine how we can locate and cut the working surfaces.

Cast housings & finished interfaces
We machine the bores, seal lands and mounting faces while retaining the ribs and outer form of the casting. The finished drawing identifies these working interfaces and the surfaces that can remain as-cast.

Transmission housings & pump bodies
Finished bores and interfaces machined into a cast blank.

Machined castings & OEM housings
Cast housings with finished mounting and sealing interfaces.
From cast blank to finished interfaces
The blank and finished drawing describe different stages. We check that the casting can be located and has sufficient allowance to machine the working faces, then agree blank supply, acceptance and the finished datum scheme before releasing the machining plan.

Review the casting
Compare the blank specification with the finished drawing. Check allowance, locating areas and supply responsibility.
Machine the working interfaces
Plan milling, boring, drilling and tapping around the agreed datums and available allowance.
Agree final acceptance
Confirm dimensional records and any separate porosity or functional tests before production.
Decide which surfaces need machining
The supplied casting and finished part need separate specifications and acceptance requirements.
- Ribs and an outer shape that can stay as-cast
- Machining only the working interfaces
- A casting can provide the overall form while cutting establishes the required fit at bores and faces. The drawing must identify which surfaces may retain the cast finish.
- A bore or flange close to the blank surface
- Machining allowance and blank variation
- There must be enough material in the right place to reach the finished geometry. Blank variation or a shifted locating surface may affect whether all interfaces can be machined.
- Several fitted interfaces on an irregular body
- A consistent locating and inspection scheme
- The fixture needs usable contact points on the blank and references for the finished part. Incoming acceptance and final dimensional checks address different stages.
Casting material & blank requirements
Casting alloy and blank condition influence how the part can be located, cut and finished. Machining allowance is the material available to reach the final surfaces; coating, heat treatment or incoming variation must be considered before those surfaces are accepted.
| Material / scope | Specification | Finish / treatment | Agree for this drawing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Casting alloy | Specify the exact alloy, standard and condition. | Identify as-cast surfaces and surfaces to machine. | Provide material records and define who supplies the blanks. |
| Blank condition | Include casting dimensions and available machining allowance. | Agree cleaning or preparation required before machining. | Define incoming acceptance, acceptable blank variation, measurement methods and responsibility for rejected blanks. |
| Final treatment | Specify treatment, masking and the inspection stage. | Finish selected for the alloy and application. | Identify final bores, seal faces and dimensions after treatment. |
Inspect the blank and finished interfaces
We agree dimensional checks for the finished interfaces before production, including locating methods, measurement methods and the results to record.
| Feature / decision | Specify on the drawing | Agree before production |
|---|---|---|
| Bores & mounting datums | Bearing bores, locating targets, mounting faces and hole positions. | Measurement location for the irregular blank and finished part, and the finished-interface results to record. |
| Sealing & hidden geometry | Seal lands, sections for internal features and final surface requirements. | Agree dimensional acceptance; porosity, pressure and non-destructive tests require separate criteria. |
