CNC machining RFQ checklist
Use the brief to bring your drawing, material and delivery requirements together for a detailed quote. Mark any decisions that still need discussion.

Fill in what you know and leave open decisions as questions. Request an NDA before sharing confidential drawings if your project needs one.
Part number and drawing revision: Units; attached 3D model and 2D drawing: Material grade and condition: Finish, masked areas and cosmetic faces: Initial quantity; expected repeat quantity: Critical features and acceptance limits: Inspection records or certificates required: Delivery destination and required arrival date: Packing needs and requested shipping basis: Open questions or permitted alternatives:
Identify which document controls if the drawing and model disagree. Ask for open requirements and proposed alternatives to be resolved in the quote.
Drawings and inspection requirements
- Drawing files and revision
- Send the STEP model and a 2D drawing marked with the part number, units and revision. If the files disagree, tell us which takes precedence. For multi-axis parts, include the overall part and stock dimensions, plus their weights if known.
- Critical features
- Mark fits, datums, tolerances, threads and sealing faces. State whether dimensions apply before or after finishing.
- Inspection reports
- Include the report format you need. Measurement methods, instrument range, calibration evidence and available records need to be settled before ordering.
Can I request a CNC quote with only a STEP model?
Yes, a STEP model can start a discussion about shape and tool access. A detailed quote also needs the material, local tolerances, thread details and final finish, wherever the model leaves them unspecified. Put those requirements on a controlled drawing or another clearly identified specification.
You can contact LZZ before that package is complete; drawings are optional in the inquiry form. Explain what the part does and which decisions are still open. A detailed quotation can then identify the requirements that need to be settled before the manufacturing revision is released.
For example, an enclosure model may show the cavity without defining the lid fit or final bore size. The aluminum enclosure design guide covers the local details to add alongside that model.
Add the view that explains the difficult feature
| Part being quoted | Useful addition to the model and drawing |
|---|---|
| Pocketed aluminum housing | A section showing the floor, walls, lid register and protected clamping faces. See the enclosure design guide. |
| Turned shaft or sleeve | The mating component, working fit length and datum axis for any runout requirement. See the fits and runout guide. |
| Casting that needs finish machining | Both blank and finished geometry, incoming stock checks and responsibility for supplying the blanks. See the cast-housing review. |
| Plastic strip, block or sleeve | The ordered grade, assembly condition and support used for dimensional acceptance. See the plastic measurement guide. |
Attach the detail that changes the manufacturing or acceptance decision. Repeated screenshots of the outside shape add less than one section through an inaccessible bore or a clearly marked mating surface. Keep open design decisions visible so the quotation identifies its assumptions.

Working from a sample
Identify sample features to retain or change so the measurement and drawing work can be scoped. Material and treatment need their own specification and supporting records where available.
Material and final surface
- Material
- Specify the exact grade or functional requirement, material records and permitted substitutes.
- Finish
- State treatment, appearance, masked areas and edge conditions. Include applicable standards, revisions, scope and required certificates.

Quantity and delivery
Orders start at 1 piece. Production takes 7 to 14 business days after drawing and order confirmation, including surface finishing. Transit time is additional.
- Order quantities
- Initial quantity per part number and expected repeat pattern, if known.
- Destination and timing
- Required arrival date, destination postcode and any decision or response deadline.
- Packing and responsibility
- Special protection or labels, shipping basis and responsibility for customs, duties and taxes.
