Precision-machined castings
Interior bosses, bores and mounting faces need access for both cutters and measuring equipment. Housing sections and the side opening show how the recessed interfaces can be machined and checked.

Interior interfaces and the route to measure them
Accessible datums locate the working surfaces inside the housing. Sections through the side opening and surrounding material let us assess both machining access and measurement.
Internal splines, channels and flow paths can restrict both cutter and gauge access. Sections through the flange datums make those interfaces reviewable.
| Feature | Drawing requirements | Acceptance checks |
|---|---|---|
| Flange datums | Locate internal and external features from clearly defined flange references. Supply the datum scheme, interface limits and access for hidden-interface measurement. | Feature positions from the flange datums. |
| Hidden interfaces | For internal splines, channels or flow paths, provide sections or a controlled model referenced to the flange datums. Identify tool and measurement access for each critical feature. | Hidden-interface geometry and access for measurement. |
| Inspection access | Identify gauges and measurement access for internal features, with incoming documents and material verification agreed before machining. Define dimensional acceptance and any CMM checks; fluid-integrity tests need separate criteria. | Agreed dimensional or CMM checks, incoming documents and separate fluid-integrity criteria. |
Planning tool and gauge access inside the housing
A cutter may reach an opening that a gauge cannot. We review the internal geometry, approach direction and measuring equipment before agreeing how to accept a recessed bore or face.
The drawing must define the internal function and mating geometry. Identify inaccessible features, special gauges and any additional validation in the order's inspection plan.
The housing definition guides boring and milling. A sample may first need reverse engineering; flange references then guide locating and datum transfer between setups.
For transmission components and hydraulic housings, define the internal working geometry and fitted interfaces in the controlled model. Include the blank acceptance and required test scope.

Supply scope
Blank and finished models identify machining allowance and datum targets. The order sets the blank supplier, incoming acceptance, permitted variation, retained cast surfaces and responsibility for rejected blanks. Missing geometry needs a separate drawing-approval stage.
- Model or sampleComplete model or sample requiring definition, available drawing revision, blank origin and alloy condition. Identify dimensions still needing confirmation.
- Acceptance & orderIncoming material verification, dimensional acceptance and any CMM or gauge records, treatment, quantity and delivery destination.
