Indexing plungers & locking pins
An indexing pin locates its engagement end from the installed mounting thread and face. The mating hole, travel and adjustment hardware set the geometry, with spring and locking-force requirements supplied by the assembly design.

Specify the engagement pin, threaded body and adjustment hardware as individual components. Include the internal spring, travel and force requirements where the design uses them.
Mounting thread and engagement position
The installed locating face provides the reference for the mounting thread and engagement end. The assembly drawing needs the mating hole, movement clearance and travel limits.
| Feature | Drawing requirements | Acceptance checks |
|---|---|---|
| Engagement end | Pin diameter and engagement length need to match the mating hole or feature. The drawing sets shape, surface finish, fit and alignment requirements. | Pin fit, engagement and alignment. |
| Mounting & adjustment | The mounting thread, shoulder and installed position determine installation clearance. Include the thread-gauging requirement. | Mounting thread and installed position. |
| Assembly scope | Identify the pin, spring, handle and other supplied items. Confirm whether complete assembly supply is required. State engagement, travel and actuation-force requirements so scope and functional checks can be agreed, with separate cycle-test criteria. | Separate travel, force and cycle-test criteria. |
Separating pin geometry from mechanism validation
We use the pin and body drawings to plan the working diameters, thread and locating faces. Drawings for any supplied internal or moving parts must also define how they assemble.
Specify any spring requirements, operating force, stroke and cycle criteria, together with the validation procedure and responsibility.
Pin and mounting geometry determine the proposed turning and live-tooling operations. Functional validation needs a named responsible party.
For industrial, marine and automation equipment, define the installed pin position and engagement required by the assembly. Specify the locking force, stroke and cycle acceptance where applicable.
